Aiming to be a Single Use Plastic Free School

From April, plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton buds will be banned in the UK. This is part of a Government campaign to cut down on the use of single use plastic. We are working towards being a single use plastic free school and have already made changes to reduce our use of plastic across the school.

We encourage children to bring in their own refillable water bottles so that they can stay hydrated throughout the day. After half term, children will not be able to bring in single use plastic bottles. Why?

The UK uses a staggering 38.5 million single-use plastic bottles every day, of which fewer than 60% are currently recycled. This plastic lasts a lifetime in the marine environment, causing death and destruction to all that resides there. We can make simple changes that will make a huge, positive impact on our environment.

We have had metal OGPS reusable water bottles made, that the children can buy from the office starting on Thursday 6th February.
