Tomorrow is the last day of this half term and what a busy half term we have had! The children have settled well into the new academic year, our new Nursery and Reception children have made a wonderful start to their school life and we have welcomed new children into other year groups.

As we hope you will have seen when looking in your child’s books at the Learning Celebrations the children have been working incredibly hard, they have been focused in class and are already making good progress with their learning.  Learning at Oxford Gardens doesn’t just take place in the classrooms, OGPS pupils are lucky enough to benefit from other learning experiences.  In the first half of the Autumn Term there have been trips to the British Museum, Natural History Museum, V&A Museum and Forest School and also visitors into the school to work with the children such as musicians from the Royal College of Music.  Our Key Stages come together each week for assemblies and as well as our weekly celebration assembly and singing assembly the children also have weekly assembly where they learn about national awareness days or social and citizenship issues.  Amongst other things this half term the children have celebrated and learnt about World Poetry Day, Black History Month, British Values and World Day of Peace.

At the start of the week we celebrated World Maths Day and re-launched the website/app Times Table Rockstars.  Please encourage your child to use this at home, 5 minutes a day would make a huge difference to their ability to recall times tables facts which helps with so many areas of the maths curriculum.  It can be accessed on a phone, tablet or PC.  If your child doesn’t have access to these then please let your class teacher know and they will make sure your child has time within school to use TT Rockstars.

Next half term already looks set to be as busy as this half term with sporting events, trips, parent consultations, the annual school fair (24th November 1-4pm), class assemblies and the Key Stage end of term performances.  Please keep checking the calendar on the website as events are continually added to the calendar.  We will continue to email out the weekly calendar each Friday.

Finally it is with huge sadness that on November 9th we will be saying goodbye to Lucille – our fabulous Food Technician.  Lucille has been at OGPS for 4.5 years and our Key Stage 2 pupils have been hugely lucky to benefit from small group cookery lessons with her.  Lucille will continue to be part of the OGPS community with her daughter Lola in year 6 and she has also kindly volunteered to help organise the annual fair.  Thank you to Lucille for all her hard work over the years and we wish her the very best of luck for the future.
